A software engineer here to help Kiwi homeowners "BreakFee" — to break free from the uncertainty of mortgage math.
The "do it myself" moment
I spent one night staring at a spreadsheet, trying to sort out my own mortgage. Honestly, it was a mess—just rows of confusing numbers that didn't really tell me anything.
I called the bank, and they gave me the standard "it depends." I searched online, and everything just said "the math is complicated."
I figured since I was already writing code to figure it out for myself, I might as well turn it into a tool that everyone else could use too.
About BreakFee NZ
I’m not a bank or a financial advisor. I’m just a dev who likes solving problems.
BreakFee NZ was built on weekends and late nights. There’s no corporate agenda here. It’s just pure math.
A work in progress
There’s no "support team"—your emails come straight to me. I genuinely read them and use your feedback to improve specific features.
That’s why I’m currently building the Refixing Strategy tool—because that’s what users like you asked for.
"Built for you, not the banks: Mortgage math shouldn't be a mystery. If the numbers make sense, the stress goes away."
What’s next?
I'm keeping this project alive and updated. Whether it’s adding new meaningful stats or better comparison tools, I'll keep pushing updates so we all have better info to work with.
Cheers for using BreakFee NZ.
Here’s to making better calls, one calculation at a time.
